SOIL TESTING · BORONIA, MELBOURNE

Explore how your soil
responds to load.

Laboratory strength, consolidation and shrink-swell testing can help characterise soil behaviour under defined test conditions. Share your project specification and specimen information so our team can confirm the appropriate method and preparation.

AVAILABLE TESTING

Different methods.
Different questions.

01

Shear strength

Direct shear and unconsolidated undrained triaxial testing assess strength response under method-specific stress and drainage conditions.

The requested stress conditions and specimen state must be confirmed before testing.

Direct shear · UU triaxial
02

Compressive strength

Unconfined compressive strength testing assesses the axial compressive response of a suitable cohesive soil specimen under the specified method.

Specimen dimensions, condition and suitability affect whether testing can proceed.

Soil unconfined compressive strength (UCS)
03

Consolidation

One-dimensional consolidation testing observes deformation as specified vertical stresses are applied over time.

Provide the required loading schedule and project context where specified.

One-dimensional consolidation
04

Shrink-swell behaviour

Shrink-swell index testing characterises volume-change behaviour under the conditions of the selected method.

Confirm sample condition, orientation and preparation requirements with the laboratory.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Confirm the scope
before sampling.

Which strength test should I request?

Use the test specified for your project. Direct shear, UU triaxial and UCS apply different conditions and do not provide interchangeable results. Send the specification to the laboratory if the requirement is unclear.

Can every soil sample be tested?

No. A sample must be suitable for the requested method and specimen preparation. Provide material and sampling details before delivery so suitability can be reviewed.

How much sample is required?

Quantity and dimensions depend on the selected test and specimen condition. Contact the laboratory before sampling or dispatch.

Will the testing be NATA-accredited?

Accreditation applies to specific activities. Tell us if accredited testing is required so we can confirm the applicable scope. View the laboratory’s NATA listing ↗.
