Particle-size distribution

Sieve analysis assesses the distribution of coarser particle sizes. Hydrometer analysis may be used where the requested assessment includes finer fractions.

Atterberg limits

Liquid limit and plastic limit results are used to calculate plasticity index and describe the consistency characteristics of fine-grained soil.

Moisture and shrinkage

Moisture content records the water present in the tested portion. Linear shrinkage measures dimensional change under the specified test conditions.

Do all samples need hydrometer analysis?

Not necessarily. The required particle-size testing depends on the material and the project requirements. Confirm whether fine-particle analysis is required before testing begins.

How much sample should I send?

Sample quantities depend on the number and combination of tests, particle size and material condition. Contact the laboratory before dispatch so the quantity and packaging can be confirmed.

Will the testing be NATA-accredited?
