WHAT LEVEL 2 PROVIDES

Targeted testing for
placed fill.

01

Testing request

The site superintendent identifies the areas, layers or locations requiring compaction testing under the project specification.

Provide adequate notice so attendance can be confirmed.

Requested areas · agreed frequency
02

Field measurement

Field density testing may be completed using the nuclear gauge method under AS 1289.5.8.1 where appropriate to the material and scope.

Safe access and site readiness must be confirmed before attendance.

03

Density ratio

Field measurements are compared with an applicable laboratory reference density to determine density-ratio results.

The relevant reference test must match the material being assessed.

AS 1289.5.4.1 or AS 1289.5.7.1
04

Results

Test results are issued for review by the site superintendent or project team against the nominated acceptance requirements.

Project acceptance decisions remain with the responsible project party.

FIELD & LABORATORY CONNECTION

A field result needs
the right reference.

Density ratio connects the measured field density to an applicable laboratory reference for the material. Share material details and previous test reports so the correct reference can be reviewed before reporting.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Before booking
field testing.

Does one test certify the entire fill area?

No. A result represents the nominated test location and does not certify all fill or provide a statement of compliance for the earthworks.

Who chooses the test locations?

For Level 2, testing is completed at locations requested by the site superintendent or nominated project representative under the agreed scope.

What if there is no laboratory reference result?

Tell us when booking. The material and project requirements need to be reviewed, and laboratory compaction testing may be required before a density ratio can be reported.

How much notice is required?

Contact the laboratory as early as possible with the site, access and testing details. We will confirm attendance based on availability and the agreed scope.
